Black Light3.0

Black Light applies special color and vision effects to the entire Mac screen, letting you alter its appearance for comfort, visibility, or entertainment. You can create effects by combining dimming, tinting, clipping, gamma adjustment, color inversion, and an HDTV luminance correction. Dimming reduces the brightness of individual pixels, allowing LCD screens to go below the lowest level offered by their backlight control.

Tinting simulates placing a colored filter over the display by changing its white point, such as an orange-yellow cast for nighttime or blue for alertness. Clipping can turn dark grays below a selected threshold black or light grays above one white, while gamma adjustment lightens or darkens grays without threshold saturation to reveal subtle details in dark games. Inversion swaps black and white to create a negative image, and the HDTV option adapts output to the 16–235 luminance range used by some HDMI-connected televisions, including setups involving an adapter.

Effects can be switched with a hot key, at scheduled times, at local sunrise or sunset, or automatically when a chosen app becomes frontmost. Schedules can chain transitions through different colors, catch up after the Mac sleeps or Black Light was closed, and use separate fade durations for manual and timed changes. Black Light 3.0 is freeware System Tools software for MacOS, supporting Intel and Apple Silicon, and suits people adjusting screens for nighttime use, astronomy, gaming, video viewing, or HDMI television output.
