BlueJ6.0.1

BlueJ lets beginners create, compile, and run Java programs while seeing their classes and objects represented visually. Its class diagram shows relationships between classes, and the object bench lets learners create objects and call methods directly during experimentation. An integrated debugger helps users follow program execution and inspect what their code is doing.

The environment is aimed at students and first-time Java programmers in classroom lessons, self-study, and introductory programming exercises. BlueJ is accompanied by tutorials and reference materials, while its extensions can add capabilities to the standard environment. Blueroom provides teaching resources and a way for educators using BlueJ to engage with one another internationally.

Version 6.0.1 is available for macOS 11 or later on Apple Silicon Macs using the arm64 architecture, and an Intel build is available for Macs with Intel processors from 2021 and earlier. BlueJ also has a 64-bit Windows edition for Windows 8 or later, along with a standalone ZIP version suitable for use from a USB drive. It is freeware, meaning the software is available without a purchase price.

The developers also co-wrote Objects First with Java: A Practical Introduction Using BlueJ, a widely used introductory textbook. The BlueJ project receives support from Oracle and benefits from an open-source license for JProfiler, a Java profiling tool.
