BobHelper restores Bob’s “Option + letter” keyboard shortcuts on macOS 15 Sequoia, where a system restriction prevents those combinations from working normally. It is described as a translation and OCR companion for Bob, but its sole function is repairing this shortcut behavior so Bob’s default keyboard commands remain usable.

BobHelper works alongside Bob rather than replacing it, and the two programs are separate macOS apps with independent installation and update cycles because Apple’s App Store rules prevent them from being combined. Bob is installed and updated through the Mac App Store, while BobHelper can check for updates from within its own app. Bob must be version 1.11.0 or later, and normal use also requires installing Bob’s communication script from the “Bob > Preferences > Feature Enhancement” area and allowing Bob’s authorization requests.

Users who already restore these shortcuts with an Alfred workflow or a Raycast extension should disable that integration before using BobHelper. The companion is intended for Mac users affected by the macOS 15 shortcut limitation, while users on other system versions do not need it.

The current MacOS release is BobHelper 0.1.0, offered as freeware for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. Apple fixed the underlying shortcut issue in macOS 15.2 Beta 2, build 24C5073e, so upgrading to macOS 15.2 or later restores “Option + letter” shortcuts without BobHelper. If the companion is no longer needed, its communication script can be removed manually in Finder by locating the file named SendRequestChannel.scpt.
