Bruno lets developers explore and test APIs from a single local workspace, sending requests and inspecting responses as they develop services. It supports REST, GraphQL, gRPC, and WebSocket endpoints, making it useful across different API architectures. Collections of requests are organized as folders and stored as plain-text files on the filesystem alongside the code they belong to.

Because Bruno is Git-native, teams can branch, diff, review, and merge API collections through their existing source-control workflow. The collections work with a developer’s IDE and agents, and they follow the OpenCollection open standard. Requests can be opened in tabs, while an entire folder can be run at once for tasks such as seeding data for a particular test case.

This local-first design suits individual developers and teams that want API work to remain inside their existing development and security environment; data stays on the machine rather than using cloud synchronization, a cloud tenant, or a separate administration console. Bruno operates within the security perimeter already configured for the organization. The current release is 4.2.1, offered as freeware for macOS on Apple Silicon (arm64), and its open-source code supports developers who want an extensible API client that fits with the rest of their stack.
