Cables lets you construct interactive programs by arranging visual nodes and connecting their inputs and outputs. Its standalone edition places the Cables editor and its operations, or “ops,” in a desktop application rather than limiting work to a browser session. This suits experimentation with visual logic, generative graphics, and other projects where seeing data flow between components is more useful than writing every connection manually.

Electron packages the editor and ops for desktop use while keeping pace with features from the browser version. The project is mainly developed by undev, with contributions from the Cables community and support from other projects and groups. The standalone build remains under heavy development, so users should expect that some features may break and can report bugs or request features through its issue tracker.

Cables 0.11.1 is freeware in the Developer Tools category for MacOS, requiring macOS 12 Monterey or later on Apple Silicon (arm64). Unlike the browser edition, the desktop version does not operate within the same sandbox protections, because executing external code is central to how standalone ops and patches work; users should therefore consider the source of the code they run.

Optional launch arguments can open the editor fullscreen or maximize its renderer to the window size at startup. This desktop edition is best suited to developers, creative coders, and technical artists who want a visual programming workspace with locally running patches and operations.
