Chalk1.7.5

Chalk lets you perform calculations from a dedicated desktop calculator designed to return useful results without the awkwardness of many conventional calculator programs. It was created as an alternative to the standard macOS Calculator.app, whose design and behavior the developer considers poorly suited to efficient work. Although its interface can appear as simple as an ordinary calculator, Chalk places more capable computation features beneath that restrained presentation.

The program is aimed at people who want a lightweight calculator for everyday numerical work as well as more advanced computations, including scientists working at a computer. Its scope is deliberately narrower than scientific platforms such as Octave, Matlab, or Maple: Chalk is a focused calculator rather than a full mathematical environment. That makes it appropriate for quick desktop calculations when a physical calculator or a large specialist package would be inconvenient.

Chalk is provided by Pierre Chatelier and runs on MacOS on both Intel and Apple Silicon hardware. The current release is version 1.7.5, and it is distributed as freeware. Users should regard it as a compact calculation utility with scientific capability, not as a replacement for a broader programming, modeling, or laboratory-computation system.
