ChordReader 2 searches online sources for song chord charts, lyrics, and tablature, then saves selected material to a local file for use as a digital music book. It displays each song in an easy-to-read view with chords highlighted above the lyrics and an autoscroll mode for hands-free playing. You can transpose identified chords up or down to match your voice or instrument, and add a capo when that is more convenient.

The app also provides common variations for chords that may be difficult or unfamiliar. Setlist mode arranges saved songs in a predefined order, allowing musicians to move through a rehearsal or performance without choosing each song manually. It suits guitarists and other chord-playing musicians who keep songbooks on a phone or tablet for practice, rehearsals, and live playing.

ChordReader 2 is an enhanced version of ChordReader developed by Nolan Lawson and a fork of the earlier abandoned app associated with Nolan Lawson and Marcel Klehr. It runs on Android 4.4 and later and uses Universal architecture. As Music & Audio software, it is open-source.

Version 2.4.2 adds keyboard arrow-key scrolling, fixes crashes when switching songs in setlist mode, and prevents letters followed by an apostrophe from being incorrectly recognized as chords. It also refactors navigation and drawer highlighting and addresses miscellaneous crashes during navigation.
