Chrysalis lets you edit the keymap of a Kaleidoscope-powered keyboard on the fly, directly from a graphical interface. Its layout editor can copy one layer to another and designate a default layer for everyday use. On boards with compatible LED hardware, the colormap editor assigns per-key lighting colors.

The firmware panel uploads either the Chrysalis-enabled default firmware bundled with the application or a custom firmware file. Supported keyboards are the Keyboardio Model01, Keyboardio Model100, and Keyboardio Atreus, making Chrysalis useful for owners adjusting layouts, lighting, or firmware on these models. It runs online as a web application, and the browser must support WebSerial and WebUSB; compatible choices include Chrome, Edge, Arc, Opera, Brave, and other Chromium-based browsers.

Custom firmware must include Kaleidoscope’s FocusSerial plugin for communication and EEPROM-Settings for storing configuration in EEPROM, along with Focus and FocusEEPROMCommand from the FocusSerial group. Keymap editing additionally requires EEPROM-Keymap, while colormap control requires the Colormap plugin. Users can modify the bundled firmware or build one from scratch when the supplied versions do not suit their keyboard, and translations are maintained through Weblate.

The current 0.13.3 release is freeware for macOS and supports both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
