About
Close a MacBook’s lid while Clamshell keeps the computer awake and turns its built-in display fully dark, allowing work to continue out of sight. It runs from the macOS menu bar and supports sessions driven by Claude Code or Codex agents on Apple Silicon MacBooks.
Choose Arm for Next Close, then hold Option as you shut the lid to activate the behavior. The Mac remains awake on either AC power or battery, and it rides through power transitions without dropping the running session.
With the lid closed, the internal screen stays black rather than remaining lit. Opening the lid wakes the Mac immediately, locks it, and restores the working session without requiring a relaunch. This suits developers who leave coding agents running while stepping away from their desk or waiting for an automated task to finish.
Clamshell is a free System Tools utility, and version 1.4.24,228 requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple Silicon (arm64). The app is notarized by Apple.
Requires macOS 14 Sonoma+ · Architecture: Apple Silicon (arm64)
