Claude DevTools reconstructs Claude Code session executions from local logs and transcripts, giving developers a visual way to inspect what happened during each turn. It shows tool-call inputs and outputs, thinking steps, subagent activity, team messages, task delegation, shutdown requests, and the context window’s token consumption. This addresses the opaque summaries Claude Code introduced in version 2.1.20, while avoiding the raw JSON, internal prompts, and thousands of noisy lines produced by its verbose mode.

Per-turn token attribution is divided among seven sources: global, project, and directory CLAUDE.md files, skills, @-mentioned files, tool I/O, thinking, team overhead, and user text. The interface renders messages, tool calls, and results as selectable text, adds one-click copying for code blocks, and exports complete sessions to Markdown, JSON, or plain text. It also works with the per-project memory Claude Code stores.

Developers use it to debug coding sessions, verify which files and tools Claude touched, investigate subagent behavior, and understand why a context window filled up; it can inspect every session already run. The program reads logs from ~/.claude/ with zero configuration, no API keys, and no wrappers, making it a direct companion to Claude Code rather than a replacement interface.

Claude DevTools is a Developer Tools product for macOS 12 Monterey or later on Apple Silicon arm64. Version 0.5.0 is offered as freeware and published as open source.
