CodeRunner lets users write and run code immediately, turning one workspace into an editor and execution environment for programming in many languages. This lightweight text editor and IDE is designed for developers working with programs and other text files on macOS. It runs 25 languages out of the box, while additional languages can be added by entering the appropriate terminal command.

Its completion engine matches typed text intelligently, offers extra-fuzzy searching through thousands of results, and supplies documentation snippets with ranked suggestions. Built-in debugging replaces print-based inspection with breakpoints, stepping, call-stack browsing, variable viewing and editing, and direct interaction with the debugger across more than a dozen languages. Live checks show syntax errors and common issues inline, accept linter commands, and bring compile-time and runtime messages from the console into the document.

Editing features include multiple selections, integrated auto-indentation, folder-wide search and replacement, regular-expression searches, customizable key bindings, and an Open Quickly navigation panel. TextMate language definitions and themes provide syntax highlighting, while tokenizers for local symbols, variables and function names improve highlighting and support variable renaming; web inspector and web tools are included as well.

Version 4.5 is freeware and supports both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, making it suited to developers who want one Mac-based environment for experimenting, debugging, and editing code across different languages.
