ColaMD lets you write Markdown and see formatted text directly in the document, rather than switching to a separate preview. Markdown remains plain text, so notes and documents can be opened by other applications, while your files stay on your computer. Its uncluttered workspace contains the text and a file list, with no toolbar or setup to configure; tabs are available when you want them.

When an AI agent, script, or another editor changes a file on disk, ColaMD updates the view immediately without reopening or manually refreshing it. Each open tab preserves its own content, undo history, and scroll position, and ⌘T opens another tab without mixing documents. The folder panel lets you browse and switch among Markdown files, adjust its width, and see files created by an agent appear automatically.

For long documents, ColaMD provides heading navigation, highlights the current section, and supports find and replace within the document. Mermaid flowcharts and sequence diagrams render inside the page with colors that follow the selected theme. Documents can be exported to Word, PDF, self-contained HTML, or shareable images while retaining theme colors, and the editor includes twelve themes.

Formatted content can be copied into WeChat, email, and other rich-text editors. ColaMD is freeware and open source, is categorized under Productivity, and provides English and Chinese interfaces. The macOS release is version 2.7.3, requires macOS 13 Ventura or later, and targets Apple Silicon (arm64); the editor is also available for Windows and Linux.
