Contacts Import

Contacts Import is an open-source Android application for transferring contact information from CSV files into the phone’s contacts system. It is intended for people who maintain contacts in a desktop client and want to move them to Android without using cloud synchronization. The import is one-way, with the CSV file serving as the authoritative source for the imported contact data.

The application supports Excel CSV files and popular address book formats used by Microsoft Outlook and other applications. It provides more than 100 field mappings for assigning source columns to contact fields on the phone. Custom mapping options allow users to choose how individual fields from their files are placed in Android contacts. Its language support includes common localized codepages for the United States, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, China, and Japan, as well as UTF, so imported text can retain its intended characters.

Imported contacts remain on the phone and are not synchronized with a cloud service. They are placed in a new account called My Contacts, which is owned by the application. Uninstalling the application also removes this account and the contacts stored in it, so backups and exports should be kept outside the application. The application is intended to remain installed for later reimports and does not run or use resources when it is not being used.
