About
Core Location CLI obtains the device’s physical location from Apple’s CoreLocation service and prints it to standard output. Used in a macOS terminal, it gives typed-command workflows a direct way to retrieve latitude and longitude without shifting to a graphical navigation app. It can continue reporting refreshed coordinates when the device moves, and Ctrl-C stops the running process.
Output can be shaped with format specifiers; if none are supplied, the default is “%latitude %longitude”. This makes the program useful as a component in shell pipelines, as well as for location testing and logging. Wi-Fi should be turned on for location lookup, because disabling it can produce the kCLErrorDomain error 0. On its first run, Gatekeeper may block CoreLocationCLI with an unidentified-developer warning, after which approving the program in the system dialog allows it to run.
Core Location CLI suits people who need a small location readout for scripts, diagnostics, or travel-related terminal work rather than a full navigation interface. It can also be built from the command line when a source build is appropriate. Version 4.0.7 is available as freeware for Intel and Apple Silicon systems in the Navigation & Travel category.
