About

Write and run Lua programs in an ’80s-style text console outside Minecraft with CraftOS-PC, giving ComputerCraft code a standalone environment in which to execute. It emulates ComputerCraft, the Minecraft mod that adds programmable computers to the game and uses Lua as their programming language. This lets users take the ComputerCraft experience beyond Minecraft and run its programs in another setting.

CraftOS-PC exposes APIs—collections of functions—for practical jobs such as displaying text, reading files, and handling other computer tasks. Their straightforward design helps newcomers begin programming, while their capabilities support complex applications with comparatively little code. Users who are not ready to write their own software can run many existing ComputerCraft programs, including simple games and complete graphical operating systems. Built-in clients for Pastebin and GitHub Gist provide a way to retrieve those programs directly.

The emulator suits beginners learning Lua, experienced ComputerCraft programmers testing projects outside a Minecraft world, and anyone exploring text-based or graphical computer environments. CraftOS-PC is open-source developer tools software for Linux, and its current version is v2.8.3.
