Run Linux containers on Apple silicon and manage them through a graphical interface instead of typing Apple’s container CLI commands in Terminal. Davit is a fully native SwiftUI Mac front end that communicates directly with Apple’s open-source container daemon over XPC, following the same wire path as the CLI without Electron, web views, or its own background agents. It displays containers with live CPU, memory, and IP data, and lets you start, stop, restart, or delete them while viewing streaming logs, follow and boot modes, statistic charts, and raw configuration.

You can open an interactive shell in a running container through Terminal or iTerm, browse its filesystem, and upload, download, or delete files through the native API. Because containers are immutable, Davit creates editable replacements from an existing configuration while removing the image entrypoint and environment values, so ports, variables, mounts, and resources can be changed quickly. Opening a docker-compose.yml reveals services in dependency order, volumes, networks, each service’s equivalent CLI command, and warnings for unsupported items before starting the stack in one action.

For image work, Davit builds from a selected Dockerfile context and tag through Apple’s BuildKit builder, pulls images with live progress, runs or tags images, prunes them, and creates sized volumes or custom subnets. Its settings cover default container CPU and memory, registries, DNS, and builder resources, saving validated TOML overrides; it also shows resource usage before deletion. Docker Desktop is not required, and missing Apple container components can be configured in the user Library without administrator rights, with an option to add the CLI to the shell.

Davit targets Mac developers working on containerized applications and stacks. It is Developer Tools software for macOS 15 Sequoia or later on Apple Silicon arm64, with signed and notarized version 0.1.36 available as freeware under the MIT license.
