DJV lets VFX, animation, and film-production teams play back and review high-resolution image sequences and movies in real time, with synchronized audio. It provides a dedicated way to inspect footage, renders, and other production media during review.

The player handles high bit-depth imagery and supports A/B comparison through wipe, overlay, difference, and tile views. Its timeline works with OpenTimelineIO, including bundles and switching between proxy and full-resolution media through references. Multi-track audio can run at variable speeds or in reverse, which helps examine timing and synchronization.

OpenColorIO provides color management across the review process, while export tools create individual images, image sequences, or movies with audio. These capabilities suit artists, editors, animators, and supervisors checking shots, comparing revisions, or reviewing image-based effects work.

DJV 3.6.0 is freeware and open source for macOS on Apple Silicon (arm64), and it appears in the Video & Media Players category. Experimental USD support is available when the software is built from source, and the project also provides Linux and Windows builds.
