DMG Canvas4.2.3

Build a ready-to-ship .dmg disk image by dragging files into DMG Canvas and arranging them in its visual layout editor. You can set a background, position items, and add stylized text while designing the image’s appearance directly in the editor. The preview matches how the finished disk image will appear in Finder, so the arrangement can be checked before building.

Click Build to assemble the disk image, then repeat the same action whenever a new version of its contents is ready. A built-in command-line tool also lets you incorporate image creation into an automated build process. Background artwork and decorative typography can be created inside DMG Canvas by dropping in images and styling text.

The program can present license agreements when the disk image is mounted, with support for formatted text and multiple languages. Its preview can switch between macOS Light and Dark modes; an image with no assigned background follows the Finder window’s appearance, using a dark-gray window and white file names in Dark Mode. Retina artwork and text are handled through multiple image representations for sharper display.

DMG Canvas can create images compatible as far back as OS X 10.4 when that target is selected, or use newer compression and file-system options such as LZMA and APFS for fast mounting. Version 4.2.3 is freeware in the System Tools category for macOS, with support for Intel and Apple Silicon.
