Hover over an application icon in the macOS Dock to see live thumbnails and titles for all its open windows, then click a thumbnail to bring the chosen window forward in its correct Space. DockView solves the common problem of opening the wrong window by letting you identify it before switching, including windows minimized into the Dock and groups shown in Stage Manager. It also works across multiple displays and full-screen Spaces, so the preview stays connected to the window’s actual location.

The preview panel can appear in seven different ways, with an animation-speed control ranging from half speed to double speed. Option-Tab opens an overview of every open window, including windows on other desktops and in full screen, with grid, carousel, or text-only list layouts. Option-Command-F opens macOS’s available arrangements—halves, quarters, three-up, fill, centre, and side-by-side—so the focused window can be positioned precisely. Holding Control-Option assigns numbers to Dock applications for keyboard switching; those numbers can remain visible on icons, though the setting is off initially. DockView can also replace its hover panel with App Exposé, or invoke App Exposé only while a chosen key is held.

DockView 1.7.5 is a freeware System Tools utility for macOS, running on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. It uses Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit for hardware-accelerated thumbnails, occupies under 10 MB, and avoids Electron and background polling; it also has no ads, nags, or telemetry. The program suits people who keep many windows open, rely on Stage Manager, or frequently arrange work across Spaces and displays.
