Doll0.0.9.2

See unread app badges from the Dock in the menu bar with Doll, keeping message counts visible while the Dock is hidden or out of view. It is useful for Mail, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and similar apps that do not provide their own menu bar icon. This helps people notice teammates’ messages while working in a full-screen window, using focus mode, or viewing another monitor that cannot display the Dock.

Doll mirrors badge updates from each monitored Dock item and can display newly arrived notifications as red badges. macOS Notification Center may alert you first, but those alerts can disappear after a short time, making the persistent menu bar indicator easier to catch. When a monitored app is running, clicking Doll’s menu bar icon opens it; right-clicking, or left-clicking while holding Option, exposes controls for changing the monitored apps.

Setup begins with the plus button at the lower-left corner, where you search for and select an application. Doll then asks for Accessibility API permission, and you must grant that permission to Doll.app or it will monitor nothing. The utility reads the latest badge text from each monitored app’s Dock element and transfers the corresponding numbers to the menu bar.

Doll is a System Tools utility for macOS, with macOS 11.0 Big Sur as its minimum system version, and supports Intel and Apple Silicon architectures. Version 0.0.9.2 is freeware, while its open-source code can be reviewed, modified, and compiled independently; contributing to xiaogdgenuine/Doll on GitHub requires an account.
