elemental7.7.0

Elemental lets developers store, search, transform, and publish self-contained documents in a NoSQL database. Documents are organized into collections that can hold millions of entries along with additional files, while queries can return complete documents or selected fragments. Its schema-less model accommodates XML, JSON, HTML, and plain-text documents with different structures, so content can be enriched as requirements change without imposing one fixed schema.

As a native XML database, Elemental provides XPath and XQuery 3.1 for querying and XSLT for transforming content into repurposed or newly created material. Full-text search can be combined with structural queries, and multiple indexing options help locate content across large collections. These capabilities suit developers building document repositories, searchable content systems, and publishing workflows.

Elemental includes a built-in web server that exposes documents, queries, and transformations through REST, WebDAV, and RPC interfaces. Developers can add application-specific APIs in XQuery or Java on top of its HTTP or REST APIs, including APIs for complete web applications. The database evolved from eXist-db and is also a major component of FusionDB, placing it between that community project and FusionDB’s enterprise-oriented offering.

Elemental 7.7.0 runs on macOS for Intel and Apple Silicon and is listed in Developer Tools. It is freeware under Fair Source terms and may be used for academic, non-commercial, and commercial work. Commercial support is available from Evolved Binary.
