Fechtkarte

Fechtkarte is an open-source Android application for creating warm-up and routine drill cards for Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) practice. It uses a notation credited to the 16th-century fencing master Joachim Meyer. The app is intended for practitioners who want a defined sequence of openings to work through during training. It does not prescribe every detail of a drill, leaving edge choice, guard, footwork, and tempo to the practitioner.

Each card presents a numbered sequence of cuts, with a dot used to mark a thrust rather than a cut. The card’s background colour identifies which hand leads, allowing a sequence to alternate between sides. The library contains more than 100 classic drill cards and can be browsed by hand or filtered by action count, thrust count, and technique. Fechtkarte can also generate random drills with configurable action and thrust counts, along with five optional shaping rules.

Users can select from six palettes for each hand, designed and verified for colour-vision-deficiency accessibility. A generated card can be exported as a high-resolution PNG or as a true-vector, print-ready PDF. Cards can also be shared directly with another app. These output options support viewing, printing, and sharing a selected drill without changing the sequence defined by the card.

Fechtkarte works fully offline, requires no account, includes no analytics, and does not require network access. It is free software released under the Apache License 2.0 and has no proprietary dependencies; its source repository includes PRIVACY_POLICY.md for the full data-handling disclosure.
