FlyEnv sets up and controls a local PHP and web-development stack on a Mac, bringing runtimes, databases, web servers, sites, domains, HTTPS, and developer tools into one workspace. It addresses the work of assembling and coordinating these pieces by keeping the environment tied to projects rather than to one fixed development workflow. Each project can use its own Node.js, PHP, or Python version, allowing different codebases to run with their required runtimes.

Through MCP, FlyEnv connects AI coding agents to a real local environment that they can operate. For example, an agent can inspect a Laravel project, determine its runtime and service needs, have FlyEnv install them, create a local site, start PHP and MySQL, configure a domain with HTTPS, and provide a working address. The agent can then run, test, and fix the project locally instead of stopping after generating code.

Services run natively on the host operating system rather than through a container layer, and FlyEnv installs only the runtimes and services used by a project. One-click startup groups let developers bring an entire project stack online together, including a complete WordPress setup, a high-level Python framework, or other web applications. It suits PHP, Laravel, and full-stack development, including workflows commonly handled with XAMPP or Docker, while its open-source code can be inspected to understand the local runtime layer.

In the Developer Tools category, FlyEnv is freeware and is presented for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Current version 4.19.1 on Mac requires macOS 12 Monterey or later and Apple Silicon (arm64).
