Font Finagler2.0.3

Font Finagler clears font-cache files to help restore readable text when cached fonts produce garbled characters or other font trouble. Its Font Cache Cleaner targets the relevant cache-file types, and can search and clean caches for all users in one operation to help determine whether cache corruption is responsible. If the symptoms persist after cleaning, possible causes include a font conflict, a damaged or poor-quality font, or an OS X font-handling bug.

At launch, it automatically checks active fonts and warns about known troublesome entries such as Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic, then provides details and guidance for deactivating them. Font Icon Helper changes PostScript Type 1 font icons in Finder to a reddish design reminiscent of the PostScript A icon used in OS 9 and earlier, making the font suitcase and outline-font halves easier to distinguish. Advanced users and system administrators can invoke its cleaning functions from the command line, including through a scheduled launchd job that runs during off-hours, cleans cache files, and restarts the computer.

The utility suits people troubleshooting incorrect keyboard-to-glyph mapping, desktop-publishing problems, or troublesome installed fonts, while the Finder aid is useful when handling legacy Type 1 families. Font Finagler 2.0.3 adds support for Apple Silicon Macs, Retina displays, Dark Mode, and all the latest versions of Adobe Creative Cloud, QuarkXPress, and Microsoft Office. Its cache-cleaning feature also gains a more secure, more convenient workflow.

Font Finagler is freeware in the System Tools category for MacOS, supporting Intel and Apple Silicon architecture on OS X 10.9 Mavericks through macOS 12 Monterey.
