Font Smoothing Adjuster2.0.0

Choose a preferred level of font smoothing on your Mac, or turn smoothing off entirely, through a graphical control panel. Font Smoothing Adjuster restores the font-smoothing controls that Apple removed from macOS Big Sur. This addresses text that appears heavier or blurrier because smoothing can alter the carefully designed shapes of characters.

The tiny native macOS utility concentrates on this single display preference rather than managing broader screen settings. Its graphical interface is intended for Mac users who want to change this system behavior without working directly in Terminal. The current 2.0.0 release supports both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

Font Smoothing Adjuster is freeware, making it suitable for people seeking a focused system utility without a paid license. It can be useful when text clarity is affected by macOS smoothing or when a user wants to restore the control previously available in the General pane of System Preferences.

Terminal users can make the same kind of adjustment with defaults -currentHost write -g AppleFontSmoothing -int 0, or remove the setting with defaults -currentHost delete -g AppleFontSmoothing. Changes made through those commands require logging out or restarting the Mac before they take effect across all applications.
