GNU Emacs

GNU Emacs lets users write, inspect, and revise source code, text files, and other structured content in a live, extensible editor that updates its display as they work. Its self-documenting design puts editing commands and guidance inside the program, while customization can reshape the editor for different working habits.

Content-aware modes recognize many file types and can supply syntax coloring, making programming and structured-text work easier to read and navigate. Unicode support covers nearly all human writing systems, so the same workspace can handle multilingual content.
