Write branching game scenes in ink markup, then play the story beside the script as you build it. Inky combines an editor, compiler, and testing environment, so writers can inspect choices immediately and correct errors in their narrative code. The text-first syntax keeps prose central while allowing logic and code-like constructs to control highly branching stories.

Its play pane refreshes automatically and reloads the choices you have made, while errors are highlighted as you type. Alt-clicking a divert, ink’s hyperlink-like jump, takes you directly to its target definition. Inky can export ink stories as JSON, the language’s intermediate compiled format, or generate a web page that is ready for customization.

Inky suits game writers, interactive-fiction authors, and newcomers who want to create stories for the web without starting with a technical background; ink has also supported the scripts for Heaven’s Vault, 80 Days, Sorcery!, and other games. The language is intended as middleware that can slot into a game engine, and its Unity integration recompiles edited ink files automatically and includes an in-Editor previewer that requires no code to play a story. Unreal projects can use Inkpot, a container for integrating ink within Unreal Engine.
