Joplin lets you capture notes and to-do items, then arrange a large collection of them into notebooks for later reference. Each note uses Markdown, so it can be searched, copied, tagged, and edited either inside Joplin or with your own text editor.

Evernote exports can be imported with formatted content converted to Markdown, along with images, attachments, geolocation, creation time, modification time, and other metadata. Plain Markdown files are supported too, making it practical to bring existing writing into the same notebook system. Joplin works offline first, keeping your data on your phone or computer so notes remain accessible without an internet connection.

End-to-end encryption protects synchronization through services such as Nextcloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, and Joplin Cloud. Full-text search works across platforms, while plugins and themes can change the interface or add capabilities, and users can create their own. A companion Web Clipper for Firefox and Chrome saves web pages and screenshots into the notebook collection.

Developed by laurent22, Joplin is open-source Productivity software for Linux, with applications also available for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS; it suits students, researchers, writers, and anyone managing reference material or tasks across devices. Version 3.7.22 adds a setting to hide the AI Chat toolbar button and preserves AI conversation history with a chat switcher. It also fixes Evernote ENEX imports containing unescaped ampersands and improves compatibility with LMStudio.
