Kiosk

Kiosk is an open-source Android application for reading Hacker News. It is designed for people who want to follow Hacker News stories, articles, and discussions from a mobile device. The app focuses on reading rather than general browsing, keeping feeds, article content, and comments close together.

Users can browse the Top, New, Best, Ask, Show, and Jobs feeds. A search function supports finding historical Hacker News stories. Stories in the current feed can be viewed in sequence by swiping between them. Comments can be opened quickly in a bottom sheet without leaving the reading flow.

Articles are presented in a native reader powered by Mozilla Readability. Reader themes and font choices allow the presentation to be adjusted, while Speed Reader and Read Aloud provide additional ways to consume article text. Images in articles can be expanded and viewed with pinch-to-zoom. PDFs, X/Twitter pages, YouTube links, and other external links can be opened in the device’s default app or browser.

Kiosk is listed in the Communication category for Android and does not require an account. It has no ads, analytics, tracking SDKs, Firebase, Crashlytics, or dependency on Google Play Services. MirrorNest distributes the official build directly from its own storage and scans it for malware before publishing. This gives Android users a separately hosted way to obtain the open-source application while retaining the same platform and category context.
