motd lets Android users join IRC conversations through a native chat interface designed for mobile screens. It connects directly to IRC servers or through soju bouncers, supporting IRCv3 capabilities, SASL PLAIN and EXTERNAL authentication, TLS, client certificates, bouncer networks, synchronized history, read markers, and persistent connections. It is intended for people who use direct IRC networks or soju and want modern chat features while away from a desktop.

Web Push through UnifiedPush can deliver messages in the background, while SOCKS5 and Tor offer additional routing choices. On arm64-v8a devices, optional VLESS + REALITY routing is available through the embedded sing-box component. Infinite scrollback includes local search and full-text filtering, and chats support replies, reactions, typing indicators, nick autocomplete, slash commands, inline images, link previews, and file uploads.

Users can customize chat wallpapers, Material You themes, dark or AMOLED modes, text sizes, and message styles. The app suits IRC communities, personal bouncer setups, and mobile users who need access to persistent conversations with synchronized history.
