Monitor cameras and control motion detection from an Android phone through Motion-UI, a web interface for managing your own network video recorder. It connects the mobile experience to Motion, the open-source motion-detection software behind the recorder, so you can view activity and manage surveillance away from the main service. Motion-UI 1.0.1 is an open-source Android app in the Photo & Graphics category, supporting Android 11 and later with a universal architecture.

The app displays live camera streams with sound and can record motion events with audio. Motion detection can start automatically at scheduled times or when no recognized device remains on the local network, indicating that nobody is home.

You can create timelapses from captured material, and the service works with network cameras using RTSP, HTTP, and other supported camera protocols. Motion detection may place substantial demands on CPU and RAM depending on the camera count and stream resolution, while required disk capacity varies with the number of cameras and the retention period for images and videos. It suits household monitoring and other personal NVR setups where smartphone access to live feeds and recorded events is useful.

The Motion-UI service must be running in Docker, and secure HTTPS access to its web interface requires an FQDN with a valid SSL certificate; sending email alerts also requires at least an SPF record for that domain.
