About

WhatsApp Messenger lets you exchange messages and place voice or video calls with friends, family, and other contacts over an internet connection. On Android, you access the service with a phone number rather than a separate username or login, then find contacts who use WhatsApp and start one-to-one conversations. Personal messages and calls use end-to-end encryption, so people outside the conversation, including WhatsApp, cannot read or listen to them.

Group chats carry messages, photos, videos, and documents, while voice and video calls support up to 32 participants and are designed to function across mobile devices on slower connections. Users can send voice messages, share their location in individual or group chats, and stop location sharing whenever they choose. Status posts accept text, photos, videos, and GIFs, disappear after 24 hours, and can be shown to all contacts or only selected ones.

Conversations can continue across mobile and desktop, and compatible Wear OS watches let users reply to messages, continue conversations, and take calls from the watch. These features suit everyday contact, family or friend groups, quick spoken updates, and calls while moving between devices. Data charges may apply according to the user’s provider. It is free to use, with a paid version offering additional features.

In version 2.26.16.72, users adding people to a group can choose to share recent group history with them. Group calls are also gaining mobile-to-desktop call transfer, waiting rooms for call links, and the ability to pin a participant into a larger tile, with these features rolling out over the coming weeks.

Free to use — a paid version with additional features is also available.
