Workshop

Workshop is an open-source development environment tool for Linux. It packages an entire environment in a single workshop.yaml file, allowing it to be launched with one command on a modern Ubuntu or WSL host. The approach is intended for development environments that are secure, fast, composable, and ready for use with agents.

Environments are assembled from SDKs, which are independent units of functionality that publishers can share through the SDK Store. Workshop applies environment updates transactionally, presenting them as changes that can be inspected and restored. Its sandboxing also allows users to experiment and tear down environments without leaving state behind.

Workshop uses system containers rather than app containers. Each environment behaves like a small Ubuntu system with users, packages, networking, and systemd services, making it suited to development work. As a Linux Developer Tools product, it provides a structured way to create and manage these environments from a declarative configuration.
