7zr lets you compress and extract 7-Zip archives by entering commands at a Windows command prompt and reading the results in the console. It is a reduced, standalone command-line edition of 7-Zip, providing focused archive operations without the full graphical application. The program suits users who work directly with console tools or need a compact 7-Zip-based component for their workflow.

Its interface is entirely command-driven, so archive actions are performed by supplying commands rather than navigating graphical controls. The separately available build keeps the software centered on command-line use instead of bundling the broader features of a complete 7-Zip installation. The x86 build is intended for Windows systems, and Igor Pavlov is its developer and publisher. 7zr is released under an open-source license.

The current 26.03 release incorporates 7-Zip 26.06 changes, including improved handling for Joliet ISO images and Compound archives. It also fixes bugs and vulnerabilities, including CVE-2026-58052, in which extracting a specially crafted archive could fail to preserve the Mark-of-the-Web information.
