Activity Trace

Activity Trace is an open-source Android application in the Notification category. It creates a private, searchable memory of activity on an Android device. It is intended for people who need to locate notifications, screen content, or files they have previously encountered.

The application brings notifications, captured screen content, and indexed files into one searchable timeline. Searches can use ordinary keywords or time expressions such as yesterday and last week. Results can be narrowed by app or content type, including filters such as in:signal and type:notification, with prefix matching, ranking, and highlighted matches.

Users can choose how long collected data is retained and can block individual apps from being included. Activity Trace also provides statistics about captured activity over time. Stored data is encrypted at rest with SQLCipher AES-256-CBC and Android Keystore. The interface supports the system default, light, dark, and OLED black themes, while a separate demo mode provides fictional data without mixing it with real activity.

Activity Trace does not request Internet permission and has no cloud service, account requirement, or telemetry. Its data remains on the device, and the software is distributed as free software under the GPL-3.0-only license, without Google Play Services, proprietary dependencies, or AI and machine-learning components. MirrorNest mirrors the official Android build directly on its own storage and scans it for malware before publishing, providing a catalog download that remains tied to the project’s Android and open-source distribution model.
