About
adpt lets Windows users interact with the Adaptive Platform from a command prompt, replacing manual platform operations with commands that can also be embedded in scripts. The current 0.13.7 release comes from Adaptive ML and targets Windows on x64, while its setup notes also mention Homebrew on ARM-based Macs and winget on x86-based Windows.
You configure a deployment interactively with a base URL, an API key, and optionally a default project, with the key stored in the operating system keyring. Multiple deployments can be saved, and adpt deployment use switches between them by starting a shell with ADPT_DEPLOYMENT set. Adding --persist, or using setup, writes the selected deployment to active_deployment in ~/.adpt/config.toml so that new shells inherit it.
Most commands require --project, although DEFAULT_PROJECT or the default_project configuration option can supply it automatically. ADAPTIVE_API_KEY, ADAPTIVE_BASE_URL, and DEFAULT_PROJECT can override the active deployment for one invocation, and shell variables or a .env file in the current directory or any parent can override deployment selection and its fields. Zsh completions are available, including recipe-key completion when a default project is configured.
Its output is deliberately machine-readable, such as bare IDs when piped, making it practical to combine with other command-line programs. For example, watchexec can publish a recipe whenever files change, while the built-in xargs command can pass one command’s output into another to run a recipe on publish.
