About

Altova DiffDog Server automates high-volume comparisons and produces diff reports for files, directories, URLs, and databases, turning recurring comparison work into jobs that can run on a server. These reports expose differences in binary, text, and XML files, while directory comparisons can include ZIP archives and file comparisons can be two-way or three-way.

It can compare database schemas and content across local file-based databases such as SQLite and remote database servers, including IBM DB2 for iSeries, Microsoft Azure SQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. Existing DiffDog comparison definitions saved as .filedif or .dirdif files can also be run server-side, allowing established comparisons to be incorporated into custom scripts and processes. Once installed on a machine in the network, the software operates as a service; command-line invocation and executable scripts provide ways to launch comparisons without interactive handling.

That arrangement suits developers and operations teams that need scheduled reports for critical files or directories, such as daily or weekly checks, as well as extensive automated comparison jobs. Altova provides the x64 2026.02.00 release for Windows Server Desktop and Core editions 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025, plus Windows 10 and 11. It also runs on Linux distributions in the RedHat, CentOS Stream, Alma, and Rocky families at versions 9 and 10, Debian 11, 12, and 13, and Ubuntu LTS 22.04, 24.04, and 26.04. Because the server supports both operating-system families, its command-line client can run on either Linux or Windows.
