Apache HTTP Server Project

Apache HTTP Server Project lets a Windows computer answer HTTP requests and deliver web content, giving administrators a server process rather than a general desktop application. Maintained by the Apache Software Foundation, it supplies HTTP services for modern operating-system environments while adhering to current HTTP standards. This collaborative development effort produces a secure, efficient, extensible, featureful, commercial-grade implementation whose source code is freely available.

Administrators can choose the package’s installation location, assign a name to its Windows service, and select the port on which Apache listens. The setup also supports installing the server without creating the Apache service. When these choices are left unchanged, Apache uses the service name Apache and listens on port 8080. These controls let an administrator fit the server’s registration and network endpoint to an existing system layout.
