Asteroids Freeware (Portable)

Steer a ship through an asteroid field, dodge incoming hazards, and fire at targets in Asteroids Freeware (Portable), PJ Crossley’s remake of the classic Asteroids game. The Windows freeware title delivers a straightforward space-shooting game for players who want a focused arcade challenge.

The left and right arrow keys rotate the ship, the up arrow accelerates it, and the spacebar fires its weapon. Pressing the down arrow teleports the ship to another position, but the destination may place it inside an asteroid. Gamepad controls are supported, with buttons 1 and 2 mapped to firing and teleporting. Spinning stars grant extra lives, while large UFOs fire without aiming, small UFOs behave more capably, and very fast UFOs attempt to ram the ship.

Esc ends the session, F1 opens the help file, F5 displays the high-score table, and F6 pauses play. F2 switches to scaled fullscreen, F3 selects non-scaled fullscreen, and F4 restores windowed mode.

The portable edition is suited to quick arcade sessions and to players who prefer keyboard or gamepad control over a compact, classic-style challenge. Version 2013.07.29 runs on Windows and is published by PJ Crossley.
