About

Athena: Firewall DNS AdBlocker stops ads, trackers, and unwanted connections before they reach apps, games, or browsers by filtering DNS requests across Android. It supports Root mode with direct iptables control, Shizuku mode for advanced firewall features through the Shizuku app, and VPN mode on stock devices using a local VPN rather than external servers. Pre-made lists such as AdGuard and Steven Black, user-supplied blocklist URLs, daily list updates, manual domain blocking, IP allow/block rules, DNS request logging, and real-time query viewing cover both routine filtering and detailed customization.

Per-app rules can restrict Wi-Fi and mobile data separately, use whitelist or blacklist behavior, include system apps, show offline apps, record installation sources, display permissions, and log each app’s connections. A status-bar monitor, live traffic statistics, bandwidth tracking, domain history, per-app connection logs, and exportable records show where network activity goes. A kill switch blocks all traffic if protection stops, while local-network allowances support printers and smart-home devices; the app also provides specific IP blocking, screen-protection bypass, VPN-slot functions, auto-start, and background protection.

Users can select built-in or custom DNS servers, including Cloudflare, Quad9, and AdGuard DNS, change DNS by network, and use DNS-leak protection; DNS-over-HTTPS is planned, as are encrypted DNS queries. Material You colors, a true-black AMOLED theme, tablet support, multi-language support, and animated screens accompany backup and restore, blocklist import and export, custom filtering rules, developer options, and low battery and memory use.

This Android Internet & Browsers app suits people managing background data, tracking, battery use, and network access across many applications. Version 1.80 requires Android 7.0 or newer and supports arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, and x86 devices. Athena is open-source under the GPL, collects no data, includes no analytics, tracking, or advertising, and runs with Root, Shizuku, or VPN operation according to the device.
