About

Autologon configures Windows to sign in automatically to a chosen user account, bypassing the password screen during startup. It lets you specify the account credentials that Windows will use when initiating that automatic sign-in. After setup, the computer can reach the selected user session without requiring the name and password to be entered at every logon.

The utility provides fields for entering the credentials associated with the target Windows account. Windows stores those details in an encrypted form in the Windows Registry rather than leaving them as plain text. Autologon works with Windows’ own automatic logon capability, so it configures an existing operating-system feature instead of introducing a separate sign-in system. Its operation therefore follows Windows account settings and startup behavior.

It is suited to Windows computers that are expected to open a particular user session automatically, such as a dedicated workstation or a machine used in a controlled environment. Users should select the account carefully, since automatic logon changes when and how Windows presents its normal credential prompt. Classified as a System Tools utility for Windows, Autologon is published by Mark Russinovich as freeware, with the current version listed as 3.10.
