AwesomeBump

Turn a single image into the surface maps needed for a textured material with AwesomeBump. It produces normal, height, specular, and ambient occlusion textures, letting artists prepare image-based materials from source artwork that may not contain dedicated maps. Written with the Qt library, it performs about 99% of its image processing on the GPU, so parameters can be adjusted while results update in real time.

The program converts normal maps into height maps and height maps into normal maps, while also extracting bump information from arbitrary images. Surface-analysis methods can generate roughness and metallic textures, and real-time tessellation lets users inspect processing changes on the textured surface.

AwesomeBump is suited to game artists, 3D creators, and material designers who need to build or examine texture maps rather than only view or edit ordinary images. It handles images containing multiple materials, can add grunge taken from a grunge texture, and includes a normal-map mixer for combining two bump maps with a normal map. These controls support workflows ranging from analyzing a photograph to refining layered material detail.

Results can be saved as PNG, JPG, BMP, or TGA files. Published by kmkolasinski, version 5.1 is freeware for Windows in the System Tools category.
