aws-env (CLI)

aws-env (CLI) retrieves environment variables from an AWS ECS task definition or Lambda function and writes them to a .env file for local configuration. Developed by Petwag, it is a Windows command-line utility in the System Tools category and is distributed as freeware. It suits developers and operators who need to bring configuration from deployed AWS resources into a file while handling AWS tasks from a terminal rather than a graphical interface.

The --what/-w option selects the resource type, while --task-definition-container/-t identifies an ECS task definition and --task-definition-version/-v selects its version, defaulting to the latest when omitted. For Lambda, --lambda/-l specifies the function name, --profile/-p chooses the AWS profile used for retrieval, and --output/-o sets the destination filename. An --override-file option supplies an environment file whose values take precedence over the fetched data.

The --credentials option fetches access tokens, and --only-credentials skips the other operations to refresh credentials alone. The project assumes that AWS CLI is installed and has been tested with AWS CLI 2.34.41; the selected profile should already be logged in before it is used. Version 0.1.0 remains a work in progress, with planned work including an option to add AWS_REGION and cleaner error handling in place of direct unwrap failures.
