Backdrop2.9.0

Backdrop replaces a static Mac desktop with animated scenes and 4K video backdrops, adding motion for focus, ambience, or an inspiring workspace. It includes thousands of community-created wallpapers, spanning calming nature scenes, futuristic loops, and other moods. The app also supports custom video wallpapers on both the desktop and Lock Screen, extending animated personalization beyond the desktop alone.

On multi-monitor setups, users can mirror one backdrop across every display or assign a different scene to each screen. Filters narrow the library by style, color, mood, resolution, or creator. Favorites and curated collections can play on schedules, shuffle automatically, or change to match a selected mood.

Users can turn their own videos into Backdrops in seconds, keep them for a personal setup, or share them with the community. Hardware-accelerated rendering, a custom video encoder, and Retina optimization provide smooth playback, while intelligent power management reduces resource use and helps preserve battery life. Backdrop uses less than 0.3% CPU when running on a MacBook Pro 1.

This freeware System Tools release for macOS is version 2.9.0,135 and suits Mac users who want a changing visual environment while working, relaxing, or personalizing a multi-screen desk. It requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later and runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
