Set a custom charge limit, hold it indefinitely, or tell BatFi to charge your Mac to 100% only when you need the extra capacity. BatFi runs as a native, lightweight menu-bar app that starts with the system, monitors the battery, and stops AC charging at your chosen threshold, using 80% by default. This helps reduce time spent at a high state of charge, which can shorten a lithium-ion battery’s life, particularly on Macs connected to a Studio Display or Pro Display XDR; unlike macOS’s fixed 80% cap and machine-learning Optimised Battery Charging, BatFi offers direct control.

Create charging rules for situations such as holding 60% at your desk, reaching 90% before leaving, or charging fully on weekends. Each rule can use a one-time date or repeating days, a time window, and a location selected through a map, address search, current location, and adjustable radius; rules are ordered, so the first matching rule takes effect. BatFi identifies an automation rule that overrides the usual limit and reminds you when it is time to fully cycle the battery for calibration.

A menu command or global keyboard shortcut can charge to 100%, while Run on Battery deliberately drains the battery with the lid open for recalibration or testing. Global hotkeys also switch Low Power Mode, High Power Mode, or Automatic without opening System Settings. The status icon shows battery health, cycle count, temperature, time to full, time remaining, and what is consuming power.

BatFi 4.0.0 is freeware in System Tools for MacOS, requiring macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple Silicon Macs using the arm64 architecture. It suits people managing a Mac at a fixed desk, traveling before a flight, or tuning charging behavior around their schedule and location.
