Big Mean Folder Machine2.43

Big Mean Folder Machine reorganizes large collections of files into useful folder structures, helping photographers, music enthusiasts, and other Mac users bring order to sprawling archives. Its assistant-style interface walks you through building hierarchies, dividing collections into batches, or merging files scattered across multiple folders. A database-backed 64-bit engine is designed to handle collections containing hundreds of thousands of files.

You can create folder structures up to three levels deep using dates, file types, filename patterns, or custom criteria. Collections can be split into fixed-size batches by file count or total size, including chronologically ordered batches sized for DVD or Blu-ray backups. The merge function consolidates files from different folders and resolves filename conflicts intelligently. Before applying an operation, you can inspect the expected result; the default behavior copies files rather than moving them.

Big Mean Folder Machine reads shooting dates from JPEG images and all RAW formats, allowing photo archives to be arranged by capture date instead of filesystem date. It also extracts artist, album, and track information from MP3 and AAC metadata for music-library organization. Typical workflows include sorting years of photographs into Year/Month/Day folders, arranging music as Artist/Album/Track, and gathering project assets spread across several drives.

Version 2.43 is a System Tools utility for macOS, supporting Intel and Apple Silicon, and is distributed as freeware with a free trial available.
