About

Bonjour lets Windows computers and devices discover one another automatically on a local network, so applications can find available services without users entering IP addresses or configuring DNS servers. It uses standard Internet Protocol networking to locate services and can also publish and resolve services for other devices on the network. Apple applications including iTunes, Safari, and AirPort Utility use Bonjour to connect with compatible network resources.

It is especially useful when pairing a computer with an iPhone, Apple TV, or AirPort base station, and it also supports products such as modern printers and other consumer devices that include Bonjour. Developers can access its service-discovery functions through programming interfaces available to Cocoa, Ruby, Python, and other languages. This makes it useful both for everyday device connections and for software that needs to advertise or locate network services dynamically.

Bonjour is published by Apple Inc. for Windows and the current release is version 3.1.0.1 for x64 systems. Developers working with the Windows SDK or Bonjour-enabled applications can use the same zero-configuration networking model instead of building manual address and service configuration into their software.
