Find nearby Great Britain bus departures by panning and zooming the map, then tapping a location to use the nearest bus stop. When opened, Buses first loads a list of bus stops, during which it remains busy and does not respond. You can search by street and town or by postcode to receive matching stops, or enter the eight-character code printed on a stop sign to go directly to its departures. Tapping a map location shows departures from the nearest stop; when none are available, it instead displays the bus services serving that stop.

A blue-shaded circle around the person icon indicates location accuracy, while an arrow replaces it when the app detects movement. The map displays the current date and time, OS six- and twelve-figure references, and your longitude, latitude, altitude, and accuracy. Pinch, expand, swipe, or use the zoom buttons to navigate, and press the floating Locate button to return to your position; its center fills after GPS obtains a fix.

The companion widget shows times from the last stop viewed, refreshes periodically for about five minutes, and can be tapped to reopen the app. Later Android restrictions can stop its refresh button working after a short period, although dismissing the app makes the widget update again and restores that button; cached map tiles provide limited offline mapping, while uncached tiles are downloaded each time.

Buses is open-source software in the Navigation & Travel category for Android 5.0 and newer, using Universal architecture across Android device architectures. It requests location permission to determine your position and file access permission to cache map tiles, and version 1.12 updates the page-scraping method.
