BuzzKill

BuzzKill is an open-source Android system utility in MirrorNest’s System Tools category. It is designed to manage a phone shutdown sequence using a configurable kill zone and inactivity timeout. The application is intended for Android users who want shutdown behavior governed by defined settings rather than only by a manual action.

Its settings include an option that controls whether a confirmation dialog appears before the first shutdown. A test trigger starts a 10-second countdown and runs the sequence in dry-run mode. This lets users check their configuration without shutting down the phone or putting unsaved work at risk.

BuzzKill uses an Android accessibility service to interact with the system power controls, so accessibility access is required. It also needs permission to disable battery optimization so that OxygenOS does not stop its foreground service. Android 13 and later require notification permission for the persistent kill-zone notification. The phone’s morning restoration depends on Android’s built-in scheduled power-on feature, which BuzzKill cannot enable, so its onboarding checklist reminds users to configure that feature separately.

As an Android system tool, BuzzKill depends on platform permissions and power controls rather than operating independently of the device system. MirrorNest stores a direct mirror of the official build on its own storage and scans it for malware before publishing. The source code, issue tracker, and contributing guide are available on GitLab. Support for Pixel, Samsung, and Xiaomi devices can be added through a data-only change in the specified source directory containing the per-OEM power-dialog matching strings.
