Calmly Writer2.0.66

Turn a blank page into a focused drafting space with Calmly Writer, a minimalist word processor built for sustained writing. It displays Markdown formatting as you create it, so headings, lists, tables, and other elements appear in their finished form instead of showing markup symbols. Selecting text and using the toolbar provides an alternative to Markdown-style editing. Focus mode, full-screen writing, and an unobtrusive interface reduce attention-grabbing controls while you work.

Typewriter sounds, smart punctuation, a customizable caret, and light, dark, dark blue, dune, and old school themes let you adjust the writing atmosphere. Word and character counts accept custom targets, while reading-time estimates, a table of contents, comments, and tabbed documents support longer projects. Permanent autosave and backups protect ongoing drafts, and the editor works directly with local files without mandatory cloud storage or lock-in.

It exports work to Word, PDF, Markdown, and HTML, and includes multilingual spell-checking, right-to-left text support, and OpenDyslexic mode for accessibility. Calmly Writer is offered for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, ChromeOS, and the browser; the phone and tablet edition is a separate app distributed through Google Play, while this Mac release targets Apple Silicon (arm64). These capabilities suit novelists, essayists, students, and anyone drafting in situations where menus and formatting controls interrupt concentration.

The current version is 2.0.66. The Mac build is freeware, while the developer describes the desktop offering as covered by one pay-once license, with a 14-day trial and no subscription or recurring fees.
